Ndewo Everyone!

It is my pleasure to invite you to the AVID Annual Conference 2026, taking place on Indigenous People's Day Weekend, October 9-11, 2026 in Duluth, Georgia. Our theme, "Maka Odi Nma Ndi Igbo" (For the good and benefit of the Igbo People), reflects our commitment to unity, empowerment, and honoring our shared heritage.

This year's conference is particularly special as we will visit the historic Igbo Landing site on St. Simons Island, Georgia — a powerful symbol of resistance, courage, and the indomitable spirit of our ancestors who chose death over slavery.

We are honored to welcome His Excellency Dr. Alex Oti, Governor of Abia State, Nigeria as our special guest. Join us for three days of meaningful connections, cultural celebration, and historical remembrance.

Honoring Our Ancestors

Igbo Landing: A Legacy of Resistance

In 1803, a group of Igbo captives, upon reaching the shores of St. Simons Island, Georgia, chose death over the bondage of slavery. They walked into the waters of Dunbar Creek, singing in their native Igbo language, asserting that "the spirit of the Igbo people cannot be enslaved."

On Sunday, October 11, 2026, we will visit the historical marker at Igbo Landing to pay homage to our ancestors and celebrate their courage and resilience.
